As we study the doctrine of the Holy Spirit corporately, we invite you to go a step further in your own personal study. These notes can help you get started.
If you have not yet listened to Erik's sermon titled Sealing & Assurance you can do that here.
Ephesians 1:13, 14
The Holy Spirit gives us assurance that we are saved by God and destined for an eternity in His presence.
When have you been tempted to believe that your assurance of faith is in something other that God?
What specific scriptures help you to remember to keep your faith and hope firmly rooted in the assurance that the Holy Spirit has given us and nothing else?
How do you communicate these truths to non-believing friends, or to believers who are experiencing doubt? How can you be more mindful to point them to the assurance of faith that comes from God and not to confidence found in their own actions?
Erik pointed out that living in light of our assurance can enable us to be more bold in our Christian faith. What are some specific ways you have seen this to be true in your own life?
If you are currently experiencing doubt or discouragement, how will you work to apply these truths to your life and meditate on them throughout this week?
Ephesians 1:14 refers to the Holy Spirit as a "down payment" from God that guarantees our inheritance to come. Galatians 5:22,23 lists some of the effects of receiving that down payment. Which of these effects do you most enjoy now? What will that part of your life be like when you've received the full inheritance? Spend time praying this week for the Holy Spirit to change this part of your life even more in the meantime.
